Spryo at the Movies

Spyro, the little purple dragon that could, is not as popular as he was during his Playstation heydey. His movie debut is therefore being met with mixed reactions somewhere along the lines of, “Oh, how cute!” and “Who gives a rip?”
Kotaku reminds us that the movie (which will be computer animated, unsurprisingly) will likely have a stellar voice cast because Spyro’s in-game voice acting has always been high quality. I can’t comment on the Spyro movie yet, but I do think that studios should quit believing that a good voice cast will keep me from realising that animated movies today are written by monkeys hooked to electrodes. “Kung Fu Panda has Jack Black!” Hooray! It also has mouldy jokes I stopped laughing at when I was 12!
(Okay, okay, that snake that uses martial arts is really cool.)
So how will Spyro fare as a movie? It has dragons and a fantasy setting…likely it won’t be the most horrible game movie ever produced. There’s a stable of failures waiting to claim that honour, and only the biggest disasters can be considered. It will likely be an okay movie, but it does have the potential to be a pretty good movie.
See my glowing confidence? You can do it, Spyro! Go for the bronze!
