Game Tattoos: Would’jya or Wouldn’t'jya?

by Nadia on April 22nd, 2008

Mike Fahey over at Kotaku.com is proudly flaunting his first gaming tattoo. It’s of the black mage made famous by the Final Fantasy series. It’s cool, hip, and assurance that he’ll need to sport long sleeves for ever summer job interview from now ’til he’s 65.

I like tattoos (though I have none), but I’m undecided if I’d get a game tattoo. I have confidence that the game industry will be around for thousands of years to come, but at the same time I wouldn’t know how to explain my choice to my descendants, especially as my skin inevitably wrinkled. (”It’s Mega Man, you little punks! Respect your roots or I’ll—oh crap, fetch my heart medicine, Levon.”)

How about you?

Dream Tattoo: Hylian Shield with embossed triforce on the center, two arrows crossed behind, the master sword’s hilt protruding straight up from behind the shield, a bomb nestled against the lower right corner and a boomerang against the left with the hook-shot and its extended chain forming a semicircular arc that frames the whole thing. In the fluttery, banner-looking style usually found below the I <3 Mom tattoos it would proudly state, “Power, Courage, Wisdom.”

… That or the R. Coil, spring deployed.

I forgot to add that I still haven’t worked up the guts to go through with either. Those things are expensive and possibly inconvenient, awesome as they are. : /

Are you bad with pain? It doesn’t bother me. I’ve been through some weird medical procedures that I care not to repeat, but I can handle similar pain in the name of vanity instead of health. See, I have priorities.

I have numerous tattoos, but none for video games. I’d want one that no one else has, but I have fairly pedestrian tastes: I like Nintendo! No one has Nintendo tattoos! [le sigh]

Vs: Thing with game tattoos is I’m not even sure what I’d get. Everyone has a Triforce or something, which is fine because it’s a classic symbol and nice in its simplicity. But I’d want something a little different and still recognisable.

Nadia: I almost got a Companion Cube tattoo until I saw one posted on Kotaku. I don’t know why, but seeing it on someone else killed the impulse. Keep us updated: I’d love to hear about it if you ever did get a tattoo!

So, I know the Triforce is overdone, but I’m gonna get the big Triforce from Twilight Princess on my shoulder, and I plan on getting the little triforce on one of my hands, but I don’t know if I should follow canon and do it on my left hand, or if I should follow TP and have it on my right, since that’s my dominant hand.
