PS2: King of Dragons, King of Pain

My husband and I recently acquired a copy of Capcom Classics Collection volume 2 for the Playstation 2. It’s a good thing to have, since his name is in the credits as a “Special Thanks” (he contributed some of the questions to the updated Quiz and Dragons game).
Arcade collections normally entertain me for about ten minutes until I go chase something shiny, but Collection volume 2 has a game I’m still pretty hyper over: King of Dragons. Yeah, it’s pretty generic as far as beat-em-ups go, but…well, dragons! That’s cool, right? Especially with the way Capcom rips off the game’s monster roster from TSR/Lizards of the Coast, sparing only a few vital name changes. I’m pretty sure Capcom has done official Dungeons & Dragons games in the past, though. I even recall watching someone going up against Tiamat (or Takhisis or whatever her name happened to be in that incarnation of the Universe).
The collection also comes with the original Street Fighter. That is, the first Street Fighter; not the first Street Fighter II. Playing Quiz and Dragons unlocks bonuses like invincibility for certain games, thank God. Street Fighter is brutal. It’s also a lot of fun to laugh at and wonder how a game so hilarious could ever become a phenomenon in franchising. After each battle, your beat-up opponent tells you the same thing with the aid of a mush-mouth announcer:
“What strength! But don’t forget there are guys just like you all over the world.”
(The same loose Japanese accent applies across Joe from America, Birdie from the UK and Gen from China.)
I never thought I’d say it, but Adon looks better as a Street Fighter character than a Street Fighter Alpha character.
