Grand Theft Auto III: Hello Mister Thompson

by Nadia on December 31st, 2007

Got an extra $4000.00 lying around? Sure you do. Consider spending it on a signed copy of Grand Theft Auto III that reportedly has been signed by Jack Thompson.

Jack Thompson is a Florida lawyer who fancies himself an anti-video game Crusader; if a school shooting takes place, Thompson is never far behind with claims that the shooter(s) was obsessed with DOOM and other ancient games no one plays anymore because kids today are hopeless with DOS. In reality he’s a laughable old man. Still, seeing his signature upon a Grand Theft Auto box is as ironic as…an open petri dish of smallpox at a World Health Organization get-together. I’m sorry, something about the weather is dampening my metaphors.

The money from the auction will go to Penny Arcade’s now-famous Child’s Play charity, an event that gathers money and games for children stuck in hospitals. Having once been a patient in a hospital with nothing but Mario is Missing, I support and endorse Child’s Play with all my heart.

That said, check out the auction. It’s not much of an “auction” since your only option is to “Buy It Now,” but hey, check it out to gawk at Thompson’s chicken-scratch on the most notorious game series of all time.
