November Reign

The NPD numbers are in for November, and it looks like video games are mopping the floor with regular boring (and probably educational) toys this Christmas. Sony sold 466,000 Playstation 3s and 496,000 Playstation 2s, suggesting that people are relatively happy about the PS3 price drop and don’t mind the loss of backwards compatibility as long as they can just shell out for cheap replacement PS2s.
The overall spike in sales isn’t surprising given the busy holiday season, but analyst Anita Frazier says the rise is still pretty impressive. “If the year had ended on December 1st, 2007 would be up 5% versus last year. With the biggest month of the year yet to go, total industry sales are on track to achieve between $18B and $19B in the U.S.”
